  • Phase 5:  Training observation and selection of Facilitators i.e. student volunteers from Universities, technical colleges and other relevant institutions to facilitate the children’s camps. The prime objective was the development of facilitation skills and knowledge of the content, logistics, and required outcomes of the children’s programs.

  • Phase 6:  Determination of institutions that meet the diversity criteria – socio-economic, racial, religious and gender- are in proximity to each other

      After evaluation of applications a maximum of 32 children who had demonstrated an ability to positively influence to others were selected. Their selection was followed by an initial meeting with parents/guardians to introduce them to the fundamentals of the programme

  • Phase 7:  Implementation of three 3 day workshops held at youth camp sites over a 6 month period

Between the workshops the children were given tasks to complete before the sequential workshop to further enhance their learning process.  After the workshops  the children, working as a team were required to identify, plan and implement a project that was monitored and also evaluated;

  • Phase 8: Graduation

 The pilot programme ended with a symbolic closing ceremony where the children presented their projects at the New Space Theatre in Longstreet, Cape Town on the 5th of December 2009 and received acknowledgments and their certificate.

  •  Evaluation of programme by an independent professional Monitoring and Evaluation Company.

The relevant feedback will be used to update both the training programmes for the volunteers and the children’s modules;

University students will be encouraged to do further research on the outcomes of these programmes as part of their Honours, Master’s and Doctoral programmes

After evaluation and amendment it will roll out into selected areas in other Provinces of South Africa. It is anticipated that 3 additional programmes will be implemented during 2010 in Johannesburg and Cape Town. In addition a follow up leadership camp for the children that successfully completed the Pilot programme will be held.

Thereafter role out should occur incrementally throughout South Africa
