The Umthombo Wesizwe Leadership programme: Module One : “Who am I ?” Aim: Creating an awareness of own identity Core concepts: Emotional Intelligence and Self Esteem How:This module incorporates instruments and exercises to help develop an understanding of “Self” including identifying individual strengths/weaknesses biographical information, assessment of self esteem. situating the self into ones culture and environment. “What have I learned that has made me who I am?” consolidation of the above in terms of “what I have come to believe about myself and who I want to become.” Identifying emotions and developing appropriate strategies
Module Two “Who are they?” Aim: Creating Cultural Awareness – Identity of “Others” Core concepts: Cultural Empathy and Responsible Citizenship How: This module will incorporate tools designed to encourage and facilitate information sharing and education among participants and to develop an understanding and insight into other cultures including Understanding of identity and groups understanding of and respect for other cultures/cultural diversity how can “I share ‘me’ with other cultures” exploration of cultural similarities and differences insights into seeing different “perspectives” insights into Human rights knowledge of SA Bill of Rights especially as it pertains to children
Module Three “Who are we ?” Aim: Developing a super-ordinate culture with multi layered identity Core concepts: Inclusion and Conflict Resolution How: This module incorporates tools to explore and encourage interdependence and develop new layers of identity that will highlight similarities rather than differences including Focus on that which is the same Examine what we believe in and hope for - values, dreams etc. Exercises in expressing appreciation of others cultures Exercises requiring co-operation, co-ordination etc.,
